enable Advanced Search as default...

I realize this topic has been discussed to death here and elsewhere,
but I'd still like to find a solution that allows "Advanced Options" to
be checked by default when I use Explorer's Search button.


I'm familiar with the great solutions on Kelly's Corner
(http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm, line 151) - but this
only fixes the problem if you search from the Start menu or by using a
shortcut to Kelly's searchadvancedoptions.vbs file.


I configure a lotta systems for newbie clients, and I'd like them to be
able to do an Advanced search by simply clicking on the Search button
in Explorer


Any solutions will be MUCH appreciated!

Wouldn't the registry settings on
http://personal-computer-tutor.com/abc4/v32/vic32.htm
work?

Mine are set this way and the settings are the same whether I search
from the Start Menu or from within Explorer.

Thanks for the quick reply, Nightowl. Yes, I've used a .reg file tweak
so that when I click on Explorer's Search button, all the desired items
*under* Advanced Options are always checked by default no problem -
once I manually check Advanced Options.

However, what I CAN'T do is figure out a way to make Advanced Options
*itself* be checked by default. I hope I'm explaining this clearly
enough for you...

btw, I should probably also mention that I always disable that annoying
Search Assistant dog-thing and I use the "Classic" search style.

again, any solutions will be much appreciated!

I have my search set that way too.

Try this:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Search Assistant]
"UseAdvancedSearchAlways"=dword:00000001

I think that should do it

have Search Assistant (the Dog) enabled - not when you're using
"Classic" search.

Somebody out there MUST know of a similar key value that'll do the same
thing for Classic search mode...

Anyway, I'm gonna try a utility called RegMon and see if I can figure
out what gets queried/read/written when I toggle the Advanced radio
button on & off. I'll let you know if I figure anything out...

"question and answer" mode, taking a snapshot of the Registry, changing
to advanced mode, taking another snapshot and comparing the two.

altering this value.

standard "what do you want to search for?" with dog (ugh!) to classic
search, advanced, you need to change these two values under

"SocialUI"=dword:00000000

(that gets rid of the dog!)

Do try it, I've changed back and forth several times and it definitely

Thanks, guys. Using your suggestions, I was finally able to get Search
to work pretty much the way I want.

It's still the XP-style user interface (not "Classic"), but as long as
the desired Advanced options are enabled by default and there are no
annoying animated mutts involved, I can live with that.

disable Clippy The Dog and have my desired Advanced options enabled by
default.
