"Empty" Video File

I tried to import a .mpg file from my harddrive into the movie maker and i
keep getting an error message that says the file is "empty" i dont know how
to get it into the movie maker and i really need to for a school project. I
have tried converting it to several other different file types by re-saving
it with windows media player and nothing seems to work does anyone have any
clue on what i might be able to do to fix this so i can import the file for
editing? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

MPEG-2 files should be converted to AVI files before importing into MM2....
check the info on the Importing Source Files > Video > MPEG-2 page of my
website.
