Empty Deleted Items on Exit

Guest

I have approx 2000 clients that I want to change the outlook settings. We
have a Mix of 2000-2003 (no AD) I want to set each profile to empty deleted
item on exit and not display the prompt message.

Presumably I can do this in the registry. the necessary keys/settings would
be appreciated. How best to acomplish this taks without Group Policy?

Are you using Exchange server? If so, use mailbox manager.

WarnDelete key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Options\General

EmptyTrash:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\Outlook\Preferences

use a logon script to set the keys.

No, mailbox manager can't set the keys. you'll need to write a logon script
for that.

You can use mailbox manager to empty the deleted folder every few days
instead of messing with the option in Outlook. This will work for everyone -
OWA and Outlook users. Users can't reconfigure this setting like they can
the Outlook setting.

If you choose to use a logon script to set the keys make sure the version #
matches the clients - 11 = Outlook 2003.

If it were me, I'd use mailbox manager - it takes a few seconds longer for
outlook to shut down if you let it empty the folder but mailbox manager can
run at night or on the weekend. I would run it weekly (Sun night works for
me) and delete items 7 days old. This gives people time to recovered
accidentally deleted items - fewer days may be sufficient, but I would give
them at least a couple of days. If you have a problem with people filing
items in the deleted folder, you could be nasty and delete them nightly
until they change their habits. <g>
