embedded sound won't play

My embedded sound won't play. What should I do--Is there something I'm
overlooking? I've followed all the steps to embed sound (from Insert>Movies
and Sound>Sound file, etc) & previously this method has worked fine. But in a
new presentation I'm starting when i try to play the slide show or sile--the
sound doesn't play. However, the sound in other ppt presentations that I
embedded the same way play fine. & the sound file itself plays fine when
opened from its location.

Please someone help soon...Poor college student working on a presentation.

What type of sound file is it? Do you know for sure that it's embedded? Right
click on the sound icon and select "Edit Sound Object". Does it say "Contained
in presentation...."? Do you have it set to play automatically? Oh, and what
version of PowerPoint are you using?

thanks sonia, for responding--things have gotten worse & i am so confused,

it's a file from my music library in windows media. i'm pretty sure it's
embedded...it's the way i've always added music before now. when i right
click on the icon it just lists the playing options (loop) & playing time &
where the file was taken from. yes, i have it set to play automatically. i'm
using ppt 2002.

what's so confusing is that the music played in the presentatino only
minutes before. then, it stopped playing but other files i inserted worked.
now no sound that i insert will play.

please help...

Only WAV files can be embedded. If it doesn't say "Included...." then it is
linked.

If your music files are WMA and they are copyright protected, PowerPoint won't
play them. Also, if you move them after inserting them, the link will be
broken. See:

Sounds/Movies don't play, images disappear or links break when I move or email a
presentation

If the problem just suddenly started, try rebooting.
