Embedded Objects do not display

A user has a Word document she has created which contains embedded Excel and Visio objects that do not display. Instead, there is a generic icon - not an Excel or Visio icon but a generic icon.

The, Insert->Object->Create New->Display as Icon box is NOT checked on her Word 2003 application.

The same document displays correctly on other machines/Word 2003 installations.
The same document displays correctly on her machine when logged-on with a different profile. (I.E. Using the same installation of Word but as a different machine user.)
When logged-on as herself she can create a new document that correctly displays embedded objects.

It just appears to be this specific document, when opened under her user account.

I'd like to hear any ideas or suggestions before I delete her user profile, which appears to be my next step.

I just encountered the same problem.
The solution I found was as follows:
On the "View" menu, click on "Print view" rather
than "Normal" view.
The embedded Excel files then appear in the document on
screen.

I am having the same problem; I am in "print layout" and the "display as icon" box is not checked. It displays "EMBED excel.sheet.8". I am on a stand-alone laptop, logged in as administrator. Windows XP Professional, Word 2003; latest updates applied.

Hi, HR Duvall. Press Alt+F9 to toggle off display of field codes. Alternatively, click on Tools | Options | View | uncheck the "Field codes" box.
