Emailing from other programs

We're on an exchange server, using Outlook 2003. (And I'm not the IT person,
but he's at a loss as well.) When our receptionist remarried (four years
ago!), our IT person created a new profile with her married name. He never
got it to work, so she went back to the old profile. Her Outlook works fine,
but when she tries to email from another program (such as emailing a pdf from
Adobe Acrobat), a prompt appears asking her to choose a profile. The only
profile visable is her current one, yet when she chooses it an error message
appears stating "The MAPI Spooler could not be started. Close and then
restart all mail-enabled applications. MAPI 1.0 [000004C7]).

How do we fix this?

Installing Outlook includes installing the Mail API. Presumably the
tech deleted the 2nd newly created mail profile that he had intended to
replace the first one. Can't do anything to help from just the "never
got it to work" description. When using Outlook, you aren't using the
MAPI interface from an external application to send information the MAPI
client. You are using the Mail API when sending data from the non-MAPI
program. So it appears the 2nd mail profile still exists.

Where are you looking for the list of mail profiles? Are you using the
Mail applet in Control Panel?

Control Panel -> Mail -> Show Profiles

How many profiles are listed? Is the option "Always use this profile"
selected along with the wanted profile being selected? This is the
default profile and the one that gets used when Outlook opens. If
"Prompt for a profile" is selected then you get prompted to select one.
