Email Problem

I run Norton A/V, full version 9.0.0 and Zone Alarm Pro, both of which come
on line during startup. I also have the free version of AVG, but only run it
on command; coordinately not at the same time with Norton. The problem is
this: when I try to download my email (OE6.0), a box pops up requesting my
ISP username and password. Its already in there, but still won't let me get
email. When I shutdown Norton, Zone Alarm, and AVG, I am allowed to get my
mail. At first the problem was intermittent, but now its all the time. My
isp says they think its AVG, but I haven't checked one against the other,
yet. Anybody else with this problem? Could it be a virus, spyware or a
Trojan be responsible? Help!

Try uninstalling AVG and see if it is your problem.
Post back.

The problem was caused by a faulty update to Norton Anti-virus from
Symantec. here's a story about it:
http://www.thecouriermail.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5936,11642374%5E8362,00.html

The only way you can get your email is to turn off email scanning. It
doesn't solve the problem if you simply disable NAV.

I had this problem yesterday and spent 8 hours trying to solve the
problem with no help from Symantec but my ISP was aware that other
customers who used Symantec problems were having the same problem as me.
So by trial and error I found how to send and receive email.

I downloaded an update from the Symantec website an hour ago but the
inital problem returns.

Symantec has failed to provide support on this and their website just
pretends that nothing has happned whereas they have disrupted email
traffic for many tens or hundreds of thousands of people.

Their public relations company promised that someone from Symantec would
contact me shortly but that was 3 hours ago.
