Email not sending

M

Marcia

About half the time or more the emails I am sending go to my outbox and sit
there, sometimes for hours or until the next day. Evenutally they go. I can
delete them if I want to. I get an error message telling my that my server
has terminated the connection unexpectedly. If there is nothing in my outbox
I can receive but if there is something sitting there I can't receive. This
is very frustrating! Can anyone help?

I have exactly the same problem...it started yesterday. For some reason I am
unable to post a new question, but can reply, so I'll be watching this post
for my problem too. When trying to send I get this message...This message
could not be sent. An error occurred. It then sits in my Outbox. I have
Vista Windows Mail.
Sorry this doesn't help you Marcia.

The same thing started happening to me this morning after about 10.00am

Click on Tools, then Options, then Send. If there is no check mark in the
box
before Send messages immediately, click on this box and then Apply. Click
on OK.

If this doesn't help, what if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of
them tend to cause such problems, although seldom immediately.

If you get any error messages when you try to send, can you show us the
entire error messages?

This is almost definitely cause by your antivirus program.
Which antivirus are you running?

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled. The latest version of Trend's
anti-virus seems to be causing problems too.

Gary, when I click Send/Receive I get a very fast box...comes and goes, but
doesn't receive mail. When I try to send I get this message..."This message
cannot be sent. An error has occurred" And now it doesn't even go to my
Outbox...if I want to save it it goes to my Draft box. I have always run AVG
anitvirus with no problems. Any help would really be appreciated. I also
think something has happend to Windows Mail in the past two days.

Sometimes antivirus incompatibility problems take months to show up.
The only way to be sure is to uninstall AVG, reboot, then try Windows
Mail again.
When you reinstall AVG, select the custom install option, which then
allows you to deselect the email scanning feature.

Windows Mail is not compatible with most McAfee and Norton
security programs. Those will need to be uninstalled, NOT just disabled.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like:

AVG free edition:
http://free.grisoft.com/doc/5390/us/frt/0?prd=aff
or
Avast free edition:
http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html

With either of those, during the install phase you must select custom
install, and then deselect the email scanning option.

Something in your Windows Mail is corrupted. Try this:
Go to Tools, Accounts, delete ('remove') that mail account.
Restart Windows Mail, then recreate that account.

If that did not fix the problem, you have two other options:

Switch to Windows Live Mail:
http://get.live.com/wlmail/overview

If you would rather not do that, you can try a repair-install of Vista:

In my experience "disabling Norton" accomplishes nothing. It has to be
uninstalled.

Thanks for all the help, Gary. I tried the Remove, close and reopen and
installed a new Account with all the correct data and still does does the
same thing. I found that I had a Microsoft Outlook Trial program and got it
to work with the same account info I was using with the Windows Mail. The
repair idea scared me...they wanted me reinstall the whole Vsta program.
I'm still open to any other ideas....I loved the Windows Mail program.

I have unistalled norton and the problem is still there, emails will only go
from the outbox when i restart webmail, once the outbox is empty you can
recieve emails by selecting the sen/rec button. when there is content in the
outbox, clicking the send/rec button has no effect

The fact that Outlook using the same account settings works fine,
tends to give credence to my belief that your Windows Mail is corrupt.

The Vista repair-install merely refreshes the system files. It does not
disturb any data.

Trying out Windows Live Mail is not as adventurous as it sounds.
If it turns out you don't like it, merely uninstall and Windows Mail is
back.
