email disappeared

all the email in my sent folder and deleted folder disappeared. I didn't
change any settings. Any idea what happened?

Well I wouldn't worry about the deleted items folder - after all, you don't
keep files in your trash basket, do you?
Check that the View is not set to Unread Messages on your Sent folder...

Can't find the view setting. new messages sent that have been viewed are
seen. all old ones are gone

It's on the top menu bar - View-Current View......
