Email account in Outlook will receive but not send messages. Same.

I have an email account in Outlook Express (vs 6.0) that both sends and
receives message without any problem. When I configure the same settings in
Outlook 2003 I receive messages but can not send. The error message indicates
it could contact the server but could not log on due to security settings,
but that does not make sense because the same settings work in Outlook
Express!

Are you authenticating with the server in OE but not in OL? Click the More
settings button and enable outgoing authentication...

Thanks for your prompt response.

I tried that. The result is the same regardless of the state of that option.
The OL settings are/were set identically to the OE settings (which work).

The actual error message is:
The specified server was found, but there was no response from the server.
Please verify that the port and SSL information is correct. To access these
settings close this dialog, then click More Settings and Click the Advanced
tab.

Does OE use a different port?

Both use 25 for SMTP and 110 for POP3.
