Eliminating log-in

Rick Johnston

Hi,

We have a small office network that includes just one Win2000 machine.

From all the other machines (Win98 and WinXP's), we can access the
SHAREDFOLDER's on the various network drives without the necessity of
entering a user name and password. However, the Win2000 machine requires
this of remote users.

How can I disable the requirement for a user name and password to access
this machine on our small LAN - thus getting rid of the error message
"Unable to connect all network drives."

Thanks in advance for any help!

Control Panel / Users and Password / Users must enter a user name

Thanks Pegasus. So I added my user name and password as an administrator on
the Win2000 machine.

Now when I attempt to access the 2000 machine from my XP machine, I still
get a logon window asking for the user name and password. I enter it and it
works just fine - I am logged on and can see the shared files.

What I actually want however is not to have a logon window appear at all and
instead have access to the machine just by clicking on its name? How can I
accomplish that/

Thanks again.

You're mixing two things here:
- The logon challenge on your Win2000 PC
- The file access challenge from the WinXP PC

The reason for the second challenge is obvious: WinXP does
not know you, so it asks for your credentials.

To eliminate the WinXP challenge, create an account "Rick" /
"RickPassword" on the WinXP PC. Now use "Rick"/"RickPassword"
to log onto the Win2000 PC. Since this account is known to the
WinXP PC, there will be no more challenge.
