Effects problem

Fred

I go to Display Properties and click on the Appearance Tab. When I go to
the
"Effects" ( which sets the Visual effects for Windows Menus, Icons and
Fonts)
and click on it, nothing happens. I appreciate any help in restoring this
item.

Thanks,
Fred

Fred, you could try a system file check. Start>run type: sfc
/scannow have the winxp in the cdrom drive.

Rich,
I followed your suggestion and WinXp gave me a choice of 4 things to do. I
assumed that I don't have to install Winxp or other components and that left
me
with either "perform additional tasks" or " Check systems compatibility". Do
you have feeling as to which one is correct?

Thanks, Fred

Hey.... You got it all wrong! When you put the CD in, and the screen shows
up the options, just click the Exit button down on the Rt. corner. The idea
is to keep the CD at the ready for the System File Check programme to run
its course, not running any of the options offered on the CD! Once the SFC
is [OK]ed, it will start scanning and once in a while, the CD drive will
spin, but you don't have to do anything. Just let SFC finish its scan --
takes a good few minutes. Click [Retry] on the dialogue box if that pops
up. Good luck.

Bee,
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. It did everything you said it
would. The Window File Protection ran it's course and when it was finished,
it disappeared from the screen. When I went back to the "Effects" tab it
still didn't work when I clicked onto it. Do you have any other input as to
my problem.

Thanks, Fred
