I recently fopund that if you change the following value
in the registry:
"HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop\Wallpaper"
you can change the bitmap that appears during bootup
(right before it ask you to login) and shutdown. The
question I have is: Is it possible to set two different
wallpapers, so you have a different bitmap displayed for
startup and shutdown, and how would you accomplish this?
The Microsft online knowledge base was no help at all. ;-)

No. What you have set is the wallpaper for the system account. This
is seen when no other account is logged on interactively at the
console.
