edit boot.ini file

How do I edit this file to get rid of the W2K boot up option? I have
put REM and ; in front of the line specifying Windows 2000 and that
hasn't worked properly.

Hi, just delete the line which refers windows 2000 option. I would make a
copy of this file before doing any editing.

There must be a mistake in your boot.ini file.
You show XP and 2000 on the same partition.

Start, Run
edit c:\boot.ini

Delete the 2000 line.

Well, there really isn't. I tried to install OEM version WXP
Professional to a clean partition and it wouldn't let me do it.
Everytime it said "Setup will inspect your hardware..." the computer
would go black and that was the end of it.

However I could install W2K Pro easily so I did that and then tried to
upgrade to WXP but it balked at that also, saying it couldn't do that
and a separate version would have to be installed. I ended up with a
c:/windows (wxp) and a c:\winnt (w2k) directory. I have since renamed
the winnt folder and moved it to another drive. The boot.ini file is
the last vestige of W2K I can see and want it gone.

Any thoughts?

Did the OEM software come with the computer?

Delete the 2000 line in boot.ini.

Remember that, and remember that it works:
You can have multiple OSes in a single partition
if they're in different folders. In this case, the
folders are WINDOWS and WINNT.
