Easy transfer: where are the files?

I tried using "Easy Transfer" but don't think it was successful. Does it
transfer files to a particular file? I found a couple of my documents in the
Documents section but can't locate the rest. My IE favorites also did not
transfer.

I read in an earlier post that you can't "undo" Easy Transfer. Would it mess
things up too much if I restored from an earlier date and tried Easy Transfer
again?

Susan, why don't you just burn your docs to CD, and transfer them that way.
Also then you will have a backup copy as well. If you don't have Nero on the
XP machine, use XP's burning wizard.

I used an external hard drive. I wasn't too good at organizing my docs over
the years and they are saved all over the place.

If I tried the Easy Transfer process after a system restore, would I be
digging myself into a deeper hole?

If necessary, how do I transfer my IE settings (favorites, etc.) to my Vista
laptop?

Thanks!

Must admit I have zero experience with Easy Transfer. That said, if some of
your docs were copied to your documents folder, you might want to check to
see if Easy Transfer created folders that replicate the folders from the
"old" computer. Does your Vista PC match the drive setup on your XP box? (Or
W2K, you didn't say which OS was on your old computer...) Meaning, if your
XP box has C: and D: drives, does your Vista box also have C: and D: drives?
(Again... my zero experience with Easy Transfer leaves me at a
disadvantage... I don't know if ET will create a "special" folder for docs
that came from a drive letter that doesn't exist on the new Vista box.)

Hmm... as to "undo-ing" ET... I don't know if ET moves files or copies them.
I would hope the latter. Are the docs you -did- find on your Vista box still
on the old computer?

Susan, system restore does not alter documents. If you have all your docs in
an external hard drive, you could have copied them straight into Vista, by
plugging the external drive into Vista.
I would still be advising you to organise your docs on the old computer and
copy to CD.

As for your IE settings, I would redo them in vista.
