early photo editing program termination

K

All my photo editing programs have begun terminating
themselves when I go to FILE, OPEN and try to work my way
through the directory tree. Each program (Paint Shop Pro,
Photoshop 5.0 Lite, Photoshop Elements & Picure It) closes
itself when I reach the My Pictures folder so I am unable
to use the program. They all co-existed toghether until
now. I've run system restores, spybot and anti-virus
software without any results. Anyone experienced a similar
problem or have any ideas?

Try the following:

Right click on a .jpg file and choose
Properties. Click the Photoshop Image tab
and uncheck the "Generate Thumbnails" button,
then click OK.

I've been having the exact same problems you've had.
Except my trouble started on the 18th of Nov. I've had
no luck finding a solution so far. Even IE has crashed
when I try to upload upload images to my webspace when
the "OPEN-file" window is up.

I'll be certain to try what you recommended John Inzer, I
hope it helps.

After more testing I've found that IE crashes every time I
browse to the My Pictures folder too. At least with IE you
get a report to look at. Based on what I've seen I think
the problem might be a missing or corrupted DLL. I will
let you know if I figure anything out. My IT guru
suggested running process viewer shareware to watch the
programs crash to see what might be causing it.
