E-mails and Contacts Lost after Restoring Default Settings

After following the advice of another user, I restored the default setting in
Publisher to fix a problem I had with the menus, not knowing that all of my
e-mails (sent and received) and contacts would be lost; including my mail
server settings.
I had archived my e-mails in the past, is there a way to access my old
e-mails or a way to restore the Outlook settings I had before resorting the
default settings?

What exactly is it you changed in Publisher? Did you run a .prf file or
something?

What OS do you run, and does it have system restore? (WinME and XP have
this).
