e-mail links want to use I.E.

I am using Firefox as my default browser and running XP home edition.
Lately, when clicking on a link in an e-mail while using Outlook Express,
for some reason, I get an Internet Explorer window and also it can never
find the link I clicked on. This does not happen all the time. More often
than not, Firefox will load and take me to the page. What is happening that
I occasionally get the I.E. window and no address found?
Thanking you in advance,
hb

Because the email link is "hardwired" for IE .

Click Start, Set Program Access and Defaults
Click "Custom", select Mozilla Firefox
Click OK.

This should fix all the file association and protocol settings, setting
Firefox as the default browser.
