Dynamic Update Problem (but IPCONFIG works!)

Hi,

2 x Win2k3 DNS servers set to allow dynamic update and set to only allow
secure update, "AD integrated"
Win2k clients with static IP addresses, set to register themselves in DNS
Single Label domain, but client boxes have registry entries to allow single
label updates

What's happening, is that I can issue IPCONFIG /REGISTERDNS from a client
box and it instantly creates the host record on the DNS servers. This
implies all configuration is working (e.g. security and single label)
otherwise it would not register at all.

However, when I reboot these client machines, they are simply not
registering themselves. The DHCP client is running, but more specifically
nearly all settings are on defaults.

Some months ago when we had a different dynamic update problem, we used to
get errors in the Event log, but this time we get nothing! It's as if the
dynamic update is simply not being attempted by the client...

Are the clients using the Primary or Connection specific suffix to register?

Also, I assume "Register this connections addresses in DNS" selected in
TCP/IP properties on the DNS tab?

Hi Kevin,

register?

They use primary (as in "machine").
Also, I assume "Register this connections addresses in DNS" selected in
TCP/IP properties on the DNS tab?

Yup that's the one.

Anyway, suddenly it's working today, so a bit of a mystery...
