Dynamic Table based on Outline numbers?

I want to create a table of topics that includes the auto-generated Heading
number - like a TOC only containing ONLY the topics I want. The table section
needs to update automatically when I insert or delete headings / topics.

The doc is a long list of technical steps from which I need to create
multiple procedure checklists (the tables) that will automatically update to
reflect the changes in the number and order of the technical steps.

Any suggestions?

Daiya,

I'll take a look at the links. I must admit that I didn't know TOCs were
that flexible.

Thanks!

Daiya,

I've checked both links and I don't see anything that helps me with one of
the big challenges: how to selectively include topics from the same heading
level. So, if I've got 3 topics all Heading 2, I only want the TOC to show
Topics 1 and 3 and skip topic 2. I don't see how to do that with a TOC.

Please educate me!

For each heading you want included in the TOC, you insert a TC field
containing the text to be included. In the TOC Options, you check the box
for "Table entry fields" and clear the other two check boxes. See the Help
topic for "Field codes: TC (Table of Contents Entry) field."
