I use DirectX 9 here with a TNT2 M64 card. There shouldn't be a problem,
though I would recommend having fairly recent drivers for your card. On a
TNT2 you won't be able to use any DirectX 9 hardware accelerated effects but
there are other benefits that come with DX9. If there is an issue with it
you can remove it by choosing a system restore point before DirectX 9 was
installed.
If you haven't done it before, run Dxdiag to see what features your card
supports.... (it should support most, if not all)
[Click START, then Run, and just type in dxdiag, and press enter]
It won't hurt your card. None of the versions will. It just
tests/enables/configures features that your card has. It cannot enable
features that your card doesn't have.
DirectX 9 just takes better advantage of what features it does.
