DVDRW sosw-825s

Device manager shows this as a CDRW, and will only load the standard CDRW
drivers. The DVDRW cuts out after makng a few short attempts to kick in.
However it plays and records CDs fine.
Can anyone help?

DVD uses a separate laser from CD. If it dies the DVD part dies but the
CD part will continue to work, also vice versa.
