dvd writer diagnostic tool

Hi everyone.

My DVD burner is giving me troubles. Recently I was doing a backup of my
hard-drive and it complained right after lead-out that the burning was done
unsuccesfully. I tested the DVD and it seemed fine. However, after that
event I wasn't able to burn anything.

Now whenever I start burning after lead in the process just stops almost
right after starting with the error message "burning unsuccesfull" (NERO) or
simmilar one if I try to burn directly from Windows. The DVD is always
busted.

I would be really thankful if somebody suggested the best way to diagnose
what is wrong. Is there a tool for that?

Thanks for any kind of assistance. Cheers!

There is a very good chance that the drive has failed. I have DVD and CD
writers go defective that had a lot of use. The quickest test is to try a
new drive. These drives are not supported for servicing.

I'm having the same problem with Nero 6.6. I tried burning an
ordinary data DVD and that works fine. But burning a DVD-Movie disk
from an MPG file fails as you described. I've email Nero support but
they have not been helpful in the past.

hi bilbo, just a thought. there`s a possibility that nero has fallen over,
before you rush out to buy a new drive, as JANA says. Try repairing nero
first. It could also be a burn speed or media problem. best wishes..J

To test if it is or isn't a software issue try another burning
software program,

This one is free :p
