DVD region 1 converter?

§

§meagol

I have a double sided DVD (region 1) which I would like to convert, and copy
to two discs, to play on my existing equipment (region 2). I have DVD
Shrink (which I think worked once for me a while back). However, on this
occasion I get the usual message to change my drive to region 2, but only
have a maximum of 4 opportunities to change the drive before it locks. Is
there any free software out there which will help, either as a stand alone
program or in conjunction with something like DVD Shrink. And is there a
way of working around the limited number of changes that can be applied to a
drive?

TIA

DVD Shrink should be able to rip it region free which should play on all
equipment.

It won't. Message comes up with drive mismatch and instructs to change
drive region.

Not free - shareware - but free for 30 days. May try it to get me out of a
hole this time but looking for a freeware solution - if there is one!

It will - if it can read the original, but the drive has to be either
region-free or a region compatible with the disk being read.

Look for DVD REgion Killer
http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=485

or maybe
DVD43 (this is only for W2K or XP)
http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=DVD43

Look further at the videohelp site for more information. Looks like if
you're lucky, either of these should work for you.

Some have reported results with FreeDVD
http://www.dvdidle.net/free.htm
But the reports I've seen do not include enough detail to know whether or
not this will work in your situation.

I hope something here wors for you. You could always look into a firmware
flash with a hacked firmwae for your drive, but this could reder your DVD
Burner useless so I'd use this as a last resort.

DVD Region Killer and DVD43 both work OK although DVD43 seems to be better.
Solved my problem a treat.

Many thanks for your kind help.

Tho your problem seems to have been solved, I'd recommend you check out
www.videohelp.com. Some excellent links to freeware region defeat
tools, and great tutorials. In addition to those that have been
suggested, you could always try Slysoft's combo AnyDVD and CloneDVD to
defeat region protection. [They're NOT freeware, but you can try
unrestricted use for 21 days.]

Also a nifty tool is IFOEdit, which edits the *.IFO files in your
VIDEO_TS folder once you've ripped the DVD to your hard disk.

Tutorial on using IFOEdit at above site.

Thanks for that. Looks like an interesting site; I have bookmarked it.
