DVD+R DL burned in Vista, unreadable in Vista, readable in XP!

The most curious thing; using Vista Ultimate I burned a 6GB file to a
DVD+R DL.

In Vista's 'Burn a Disc' 'Prepare this blank disc' window I chose
'Mastered - Readable on all computers and some CD/DVD players.
Requires you to write all files at once, and individual files can't be
erased afterwards.' The burn appeared to complete successfully.

On my Vista computer I re-insert the disc. The directory displays. In
attempting to drag the file to a folder on the HDD the process hangs.
In the Command Prompt window running a comp returns 'Can't read file'.

My XP computer has no problem reading the file! A comp on the XP
computer indicates the file was burned perfectly.

I can't spend time on this problem. Any ideas what's the problem?

I dont think this is even unusual

Try burning it again at a slower/more reliable speed (I only ever burn at
x16 ish) - You should also 'verify' when you burn (if it's important that it
works)
Maybe try a more reliable DVD+R (they can vary quite a lot and so can drive
compatabilty)
Maybe try a get a new driver for your DVD Writer (this can also improve disk
compatability)

Now you can probably see why it's not unusual

I think most people will say you might need to experiment a little until you
find the perfect set up

Try using a lens cleaner disc on the Vista machine's DVD drive. They often
help, I find.

Nobody has a thought about installing an ASPI layer?

The built in disc burning will not use ASPI, and will already have whatever
it needs.. SPTI or whatever. Installing an ASPI layer these days could
cause more problems, and any programs that need it, like Nero, install there
own version.

I've read the 4 replies to date.

(1) To JethroUK: The 6GB file burned in Vista to DVD+R DL is perfectly
readable on an XP machine. I think it's not a problem with disc
quality or driver.
(2) To Synapse Syndrome: The same 6GB file burned in XP to DVD+R DL is
perfectly readable on the Vista machine. I think it's not a dirty DVD
drive.
(3) To Cymbal Man Freq: I don't think ASPI is relevant. See (1) & (2)
above.

WTF! Are trying to suggest that the drive that wrote the disc may not
be compatible with itself!

The ASPI layer was a win 9X class kludge. XP did not need it, nor
would Vista.

I do not understand why Windows Vista gives me a message that it can't
complete formating a CD-RW. I've tried 3 new discs. On the last I tried to
save the file to the CD anyway. The file was saved on the CD and I was able
to open it.
I am using the only drive on the laptop. Is this message significant? I
don't understand
