DVD problems....

I have no idea what I am doing with Computers... so sorry for not using the
correct terms!! I just got a digital camera for christmas and in order to
download the pictures off my camera onto my computer, I had to use a wire
type thing. In the directions, it said to make sure I click on remove
hardware device before I disconnect the wire. (It would ruin the computer or
the camera). So I did. However when I did that. I think I removed something
to do with the DVD drive by a mistake. Now, I cannot even open the DVD drive
to put a CD or a DVD in it!!! I have no idea what to do now!! I need it. I
have no floppy drive only CD/DVD drive!
Thanks so much for ANY information you could give me!!!

Hi,

Please define what you mean by not being able to open the DVD drive. If you
double click My Computer, is the drive there? If you insert a disk, does the
program on it run?

What the camera software likely has you do is stop the data link before
disconnecting. This is normal and is done to prevent corruption of the image
files by having Windows stop talking to the device prior to its removal.

Hi,
The tray that comes out when I press the button to open it.... thats what i
mean. Ummm, in order to put in a dvd or a cd i need to open the tray (or
whatever it is called). That will not open. That is what I meant by drive...
sorry if it wasnt the right term! ;)
In other words... i cant insert any cd or dvd because it will not open.
Make sense???
Thanks!

Does the drive make any type of noise when you attempt to open the
tray with the button on the face of the drive ?

Go to My Computer; highlight the specific drive and then right-click.
A drop down menu offers an Eject option; select Eject and see if the
tray will open.

If the above does not help, the tray might be jammed mechanically.
These drives usually have an access hole on its faceplate that permits
the end of a paper clip to be inserted and to thereby open the tray.

Hope that this has helped.

In any case, not being able to eject has certainly nothing to do with you ejecting your camera in the first place, so you shouldn't worry about that :)
