DVD on D:Hard drive?

Will

Because it is very difficult to get going in my DVD drive,
I tried to copy my Lord of the Rings, Fellowship DVD with
Windows Me, to my Fat32 D: or Work drive but it failed due
to unknown command or some such.
So I tried my XP Home and did get it to the Fat32. The
files .Vob, .Ifo, and .Bup can be give to my decoder in
Windvd player but it does nothing with them. Windows Media
Player 9 does more, sound, some video chapter list, but
sound is stuttering and video non continuous.

I wonder if this is possible at all, maybe on Ntfs, maybe
with Real Player? The two players I've tried think that
DVD comes from G: 'cause that's the Dvd drive?!
Help would be appreciated.
