dvd not playing

i insert a dvd movie into cdrom and it wont play, music
is fine, i have used powerdvd. it tells me that there is
no disc in the drive> i thought that you could watch
dvd's just by using windows media player. can someone
pse explain in non puter talk lol how i can watch dvd's
on my puter. tka chewy

why thank you jeff for clearing that up for me, i got a
few diff answers when asking around so a normal cd rom
will not play or read dvd's, so i have to have a dvd
reader which is not what i was told originally, tks for
your help
