DVD Drive problems

I have a Pioneer DVR 111D Burner, which is some 6 weeks old.

If I insert a blank disk into the drive the drive designation changes from a
DVD-RW Drive to a CD Drive, when viewed with Windows Explorer. If I try to
access the Drive with a blank disk inserted I get an "X:\ is not accessible,
incorrect function" error message. (X being my drive letter).

If I insert a disk containing data, I can read the drive and it operates as
normal.

I use Nero 6.0.0.0 to burn my DVD's and Nero recognises the drive, burns to
the drive, but the disks aren't readable. (I get the same error as I do when
I insert a blank disk). I have written to the drive with other software, such
as Ulead DVD Factory with the same results. Windows will not write to the
drive at all, I just keep getting the error message above.

The issue appears to be that Windows does not recognise the drive when I
have new media in it. I have tried different brands of media, with the same
results.

This is a recent occurrence, as I have written to the drive previously and
can read the disks I had written.

I have attempted to update the drivers for the device, but Windows indicates
the current drivers are up to date. I have also uninstalled the device
drivers and re-installed to no effect.

My question is, what would make Windows incorrectly identify the drive when
I insert blank media?

TIA, Richard.

Hello Jaymon,

Thanks for your response. I had previously updated the firmware, but forgot
to mention that in my initial post.

I did as you suggested, upated Nero, removed DVD Movie Factory, but I still
have the same problem. As for disabling the CD Wiz, I couldn't find anything
like that, but disabled CD Audio instead.

Could my problem be SCSI related? I should have mentioned SCSI initially.

Thanks again for your assistance.
Richard.
