Hi all, just set up 2 XP machines (laptop to PC) and all is networked great
but cannot get my laptop to connect to my PC DVD drive. I have connected to
all other drives OK but a NO NO with my DVD drive. It says that the drive is
inaccessible, I might not have permission to connect.... I have shared it of
course but .... any suggestions? Thanks Bob

Bob,

Have you shared your CD drive?

Right-click your drive | Sharing & give it a name. On the share permissions
make sure you have all access (3 tick boxes are ticked for everyone) | APPLY
| OK

Now try:

\\MachineNameHere\ShareName & press ENTER

Also check firewall. Windows firewall should be disabled constantly

When you said you have connected them both, do you mean via a hub, layered
switch or crossover cable?

Is the PC running XP Home and the laptop XP Pro?

I have found that an XP Pro laptop doesn't like to share a printer
wirelessly with an XP Home desktop PC as the printer's host.

I put it down to the one being Pro and the other being Home.

Wireless connection. The various internal hard drives (2) and external
drives (3) are shared which are all available on the wireless network except
the DVD drive which I want to use to load programs for my MSI notebook which
does not have a CD/DVD drive.
