DVD/CD Rom drive reads but doesn't write

OS: WinXP Pro. the built in CD burner does not write
anymore. reading CDs (as long as there is data on the CD)
is no trouble at all. It does not even append to former
written CDs, error response: D:\not accessible.
When checking drive D:\ properties with a disk with data
is gives the MB but no free space anymore. The same with
an empty CD (I tryed differend brands)it gives used space
0, free space 0.

One more trouble that might be related: In Computer
Management\System Tools\Local Users and Groups the error
response is: Unable to acces the computer ... . The error
was: Library not registered.
The file Libraries in Computer
Management\Storage\Removable Storage is empty.
According Device manager the drive is working perfect.

De-install/install, disable/enable etc. doesn't help.

Anybody out there who knows the reason/solution?

This may help, read microsoft knowledge base article
316529. This has to do with CD-RW drives being
misidentified in the registry.

Hope it helps
