DVD burning & related freeware

I have a fairly new Dell (three months) with a DVD
burner... but it did not come with DVD burning software.
You get DVD playing software with the burner, but not
burning software.

Natch.

I've tried a few flavors of freeware, shareware, etc...
and I've wasted about 10 DVDRs. I sucessfully burned two
movies.

Any advice/help/links would be much appreciated.

Yeah that wasted half of those DVDRs. Probably I just
don't understand the technical side of it, y'know?

Is there an easier one?

MS Xp has the stuff built into it. Go to Windoze Explorer
and right click on the file(s) you want to copy and
select copy and then right click on the drive you want it
to go to and click paste, then when you have all the
files you want on the CD click on the copy to CD in the
upper left of the sidebar and it will burn them to the
CD.

Nero is also one to use if you don't want to use Xp stuff.

That's for file backup, not movie burning. Burning a
movie into a playable DVD and burning files to be
accessed as backups are two different things with two
different processes.

If you say so, I've never tried to burn a movie with it.

I prefer Win98SE but the new LT I got came with XP.

I've tried nero (doesn't want to play unless its nero
files), but I'll try your idea again.

Weird thing is, I only have two drives: c (HD) and d
(DVDRW) yet three drives show up in Windows explorer.
Sometimes when trying to burn, the DVDRW doesn't show,
just a CDRW...

I use Shrink to copy the file and it burns them with
Nero, which came with the burner. Both require reading
the tutorials. With Shrink, you have to make sure your
country settings are correct. Also, keep in mind that
some movies just wont copy.

I use Nero 6 Ultra - allows you to burn CDs and DVDs, and
recode double layer DVD movies so that it fits on a
standard one-layer DVD+R or -R.

I hear there is a little copy protection-breaking program
called 'AnyDVD' that can run in the background to allow
you to duplicate the data on most DVD-Videos if that's
what you want to do. I don't know much about it, though.

I ended up buying the software through ebay. Some allow
you to copy YOUR own DVD's, some allow you to put it on
your hard drive.

Sweet, thnx

BTW - yeah my copies come out all right. But movies I
download, like Suburbia (1984, impossible to find in
stores) are a bitch to convert.

Get a couple of DVDRWs to practice with till you get your
software sorted out. Also DVDR branding can make a big
difference with some burners. If you want it all check
