DVD Burner over Remote Desktop

D

David M

I have a centralized DVD Burner that I want to access over Remote Desktop to
initialize the Burn process. When I do this the "DVD Burner Drive" is not
available. Is this security setting that I can control / modify some where?

Thank you,
D.

And we are to guess which CD burning software you are trying to use on
the remote host?

Nero has their Burnrights utility that you might want to investigate
if that is the CD burning software that you use.

Yes - the burning software that I am trying to use is Nero Ultra, the system
OS is Vista Ultimate. The error that comes up says that the DVD Burner may
not be available over a remote desktop connection - this is a Windows
Security feature. I was hoping that this was something I could turn off with
a local security policy or something. It isn't just Nero though - I noticed
that I can not burn with other software apps as well.

Are you logging onto the remote host under an admin-level account?
Have you yet investigated the Burnrights utility (which runs as an NT
service) that I mentioned? Go read
http://www.nero.com/enu/support-faq.html?s=sub&t=Burnrights.

I have the same issue and cannot find a solution anywhere, or even a valid
response. This happens on both of my Windows Vista Business systems and
occurs when using any CD/DVD writing software. One system has Nero installed
and the other never has, so it's a Vista restriction not a 3rd party software
issue. Everything works fine when working physical at the systems, but
takeover the same session with RDP and the DVD writer is only seen as a
reader, no write ability.

Any ideas on how to work around it ?

Microsoft, why is this restriction even in place ?

--thanks
