Duplicate Folder Names, My Pics&My Music Folders in My Docs folder

My friends computer may have been hacked it to, as they found files on
different locations to where they should be. This is possibly my fault as i
left remote connection turned on for a few weeks because i was going to try
to connect to there PC from mine at home. Anyway...
Since then, on one of there accounts, in the My Documents Folder, there are
2 folders called My Pictures, and My Music.
But the content in each folder is different.
Now to further explain, I set up there computer, and when i did I
partitioned the HDD in to 2 partitions, the first (C:) is smaller and is only
for windows, where as the second (D:) is where I installed all the programs,
and also moved each My Documents folder to (by right clicking in My Documents
on the desktop, selecting Properties, and then simply changing the
"C:\Documents and ..." to "D:\Documents and ...".

So now it would seem that the original folder that contained the My docs on
C:, has lost it's My Music and My Pictures folder, has been moved to D: tho
those folder names already existed and there for should have been just copied
over.
But instead there are 2 Folders with the same Name for each My Pics, and My
Music.
This should not be possible right!?

Now I know the first thing you might say is Run Scan Disk, well did that and
they are still there!? I thought it might be a cross linked file or something
that Scan disk would fix. But it seems not.

Anyway, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as I’m quite
curious as to how this is possible!? I've searched the Web and Microsoft but
found nothing even close to my interesting problem.

Thanks everyone!

Hi,

We don't have pumpkinpizza in these parts, is that good? :blush:)

Check the settings here: Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\DocFolderPaths
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

Also a note that may help:

Go to Start/Run/Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersi
on\Explorer\User Shell Folders

Change:

CommonDesktop
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Desktop

To:

CommonDesktop
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Desktop

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\...\Shell Folders\Common Desktop -> C:\Documents and
Settings\All Users\Desktop
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\...\User Shell Folders\Common Desktop ->
%ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Desktop

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\...\Shell Folders\Desktop -> C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Desktop
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\...\User Shell Folders\Desktop -> %USERPROFILE%\Desktop
