Duplicate emails

Jim Mehl

I am receiving duplicate emails on most (not all) emails. I have gone to
Tools->Accounts
and there are NOT duplicate accounts. The problem seems to have started when
I
upgraded to Trend Micro Internet Security 2009 in January.
Any suggestions?

Your problem is most likely caused by your antivirus.
Trend Micro antivirus is among the top three troublemakers for Windows Mail.
First, go into its settings and disable any interaction with email, then try
Windows Mail again. If no improvement, do a trial uninstall of the antivirus.

Another option (instead of uninstalling Trend Micro) is to upgrade to
Windows Live Mail, which is more resistant to the adverse effects of
overly intrusive antivirus products: http://download.live.com/wlmail

In any case you must disable any antivirus email scanning, for the reason
explained here:

I use Outlook Express and have two accounts, one for personal mail and one
for general mail. All my personal mail has started going to both the
personal account and the general acouint. The mail for the general account
just goes there. How can I stop the personal mail from also going to the
general account ?

You can add multiple accounts, via Tools - Accounts - Add, but Windows Mail
doesn't have identities or a password option....

Windows Mail puts email from all accounts into the same Inbox, and there's
no setting to change that. When you send a message, you can select which
account to send from, by clicking on the From: box.

Here are a few alternatives to keep your email separate...

1. Create folders for each email account and create message rules to move
email addressed to each account into the appropriate folder.

2. Create and use different Windows Users, each with WM accessing only
their email account. (This is how you set a password to keep other users
out.)

3. Use the newer Windows Live Mail which has separate folders for each
account, but no identities or password:

4. Purchase WMIDs which adds identities to WM

5. Use Windows Mail for one account, Windows Live Mail for another.
