I have the same problem with a HP photosmart 8250 with duplex-module installed.
Is there a fix or a workaround to solve this problem?
The new driver from HP, d.d. 29-03-2007, Vista Ultimete 64b did not fixed
this problem.

Hi Alan, I also have the same problem (unable to select any form of

Huh, not sure what you're driving at there Steve?
The Windows Vista driver has a setting of "Flip Pages Up" under the
Finishing section of the Printing Preferences. When this is set the
duplex is
supposed to be lengthwise and when it isn't it's widthwise. The problem
I'm
having is the printer will not print anything other than lenghtwise
duplex.

Cheers

:

Weird!
Both my duplex capable printers use the terms:
My HP Deskjet:
"Flip on long edge" and "Flip on short edge"
The terms do not change when I change the print processor setting for
the printer from: "Winprint" to "hpzpplhn"

My other printer is a Brother MFC8820DN

Both print Portrait mode Long edge flip properly.
(sometimes refereed to as Long edge Binding)

Hi,
I have an HP Officejet 6110 which is using the Vista built in driver
(there
is no driver from HP). I have the duplex unit attached but Vista
refuses to
allow me to print duplex in Portrait with the pages back to back.
Instead it
insists on printing "Flip up pages" i.e. the pages are head to toe so
you
read the first page and flip it lengthwise instead of widthwise. There
is a
setting "Flip Pages Up" which is supposed to control this but it has
no
effect. I have seen other people with different HP printers but the
same
problem (google). Apparently it does work correctly in landscape but I
haven't tried that.
I do try not to print things out often but when I do I use duplex so
this is
painful.
Are there any plans to fix the driver or any workarounds (no manual
duplex
is not a workaround by the way!)

Thanks in advance

Hi Alan,

I noticed your posting was from quite some time ago, but the problems still
persist. My HP 7310 All-In-One worked fine with Windows XP, but not with my
new computer, which is running Vista Home Premium. The two most annoying
problems are flipping the pages with duplex printing, and the printer
uninstalling itself on a regular basis.

The printing is a problem, because for anyone trying to save paper, this
feature is tremendously helpful. I used to use it all the time when I was
running XP. Now, it's really not usable because it keeps flipping the pages
like you were going to bind it at the top. I have turned on and off the
setting for "flip pages" - no effect. The HP support center even told me to
try to install the printer as a 6550 (I think), but this also did not work.
I feel really guilty wasting paper, because I can't duplex print!

As for the uninstalling, I know there is a patch, and have tried several
times to install it, but I keep getting the message: "This update does not
support any of the HP device drivers that you have on your PC. You do not
need this software update." Well, obviously I do.

I have been talking with HP for months about these problems, but getting
nowhere. It seems there should be a group of people coordinating issues like
this between HP and Microsoft. Any help you could give would be very
appreciated! Thanks!

Interesting -- I was just about to tell you about that one since I'd just
noticed it 8:(

You might try installing it using Right Mouse Click and Run as Administrator
and see if that does it. I find it does for a lot of objections VISTA makes
and their error messages are known for not always being correct!

Here's the link I have BTW in case they updated it since you tried.

I have that printer too and do not have the problem you and others
mentioned.

First question: You are following the on screen instructions for duplex
printing that come up after you have printed side 1? It shows how you
have to flip the printed sheet from head to toe so that the top -- the
end that comes out first -- goes into the paper tray top first and face
up for the second side to be printed.

I've just switched to VISTA and double checked this and there is not
problem in printing both sides with my PS8250.

But as someone has mentioned ther is a check box for Flip page up that
becomes settable if you select Duplex printing.

Try at least verifying that this is not set: (I'm in XP at the moment
so the path may differ slightly but I'm sure you know how to get to the
destination)

START / SETTINGS / PRINTERS / Right Mouse click Select PS 8250 and
Printing Preferences.

Click on the FINISHING TAB and when [x] Duplex Printing is checked make
sure that [ ] Flip Pages Up is not checked.

If Flip Pages Up is checked then uncheck it and do a print to see if
it's OK.

If it is not checked then I'd suggest checking it and doing a print to
see what happens and if it is still flipped incorrectly then go back
and uncheck that Flip Pages Up box and try once more in case that
unsticks a setting.

Hope that helps.

Alan,
I have a new HP 7310 and it came with a Vista disc, but it still prints top
to top. I have sent you an email asking for the fix. Frankly HP have been
pretty useless about this. I waited in on three separate days for a tecnician
to contact me. The email conversation was amusing to say the least. My Son is
an IT tecnician and can't get it to work. I bought the HP because all their
products I have had in the past have worked. I don't use the fax, but like
the sheet feed for copying and the speed it warms up also it is much quieter
than a laser.

I, too, have HP printers (7410 and 7310 Officejet All-in-One models),
each of which has a two-sided (duplex) printing attachment. However,
when printing using a new Dell notebook running Vista Home Premium, I
cannot print AUTOMATICALLY in duplex mode (it is not an option on the
print menus).

Make sure the duplexer has been enabled - Start, Printers, double-click on
the Officejet, Printer, Properties, Device Settings, Installable Options
and make sure the Duplex Unit (for 2-sided printing) is set to "Installed",
Apply, OK.

Once you do this you will probably find the back side is printed upside
down. In this case send me an email requesting a patch for the duplexer.

Hi Bob,
Could you please send me the same patch for the same head to toe duplex
error on HP OfficeJet d155xi using Vista SP1 current driver version is

I would be most grateful
Many thanks

If I had wanted to manually print two-sided, I wouldn't have bought the
duplexer - which worked before I started using Vista. I can't afford a new
printer, so WHEN will a WORKING patch be available? The 6500 driver is no
help is solving the upside down back page!
