Dungeon Siege 2: sound problems in video

G

Guest

hello,

i have the following problem:
in the intro video the sound goes sometimes off for a second, after this on
- then after some seconds off for a second... ( i think the sound goes off
about 10 to 20 times only in the intro video :-( )
I have this problem not in the game - only in game movies.
I tried all the Sound-related-tipps on the microsoft support page for
Dungeon Siege - doesn't solve the problem.
Can anyone help me?
My System: Soundblaster Live ! 5.1, ati 9800 pro (128mb), athlon xp 2400
Please help!!!

Hi Bloodsucker,

Let's see what's happening exactly on your system. To do so,
please browse to your Dungeon Siege folder and attempt to
play the intro videos, and report back with the results.

Hi Jimmy,

I browse to my Dungeon Siege 2 folder on my hard drive and on my cd-rom, but
i don't find any video-files. Can You help me? (Besides direct X is up to
date (9.0c) and my ati-drivers are catalyst 5.9).

Hi Mirko,

I've reformatted and as a result I have to reinstall Dungeon Siege..
Perhaps you can identify the file by it's name; "intro" for example?

Hi Jimmy,

here my filelist. There are two files that seem to be movies:
Movies1.ds2res, Movies2.ds2res, but i can't start them (renamed in avi, mpg
and mpeg). I think they are resources with many files in one.
Other ideas what's wrong?

Hi Mirko,

In order to troubleshoot further and see if there's a conflict of some
kind causing this error, let's try running those clips in Safe Mode ...

Startup your system in SAFE MODE by pressing F8 repeatedly
while your system is booting up after you've shut down your system.

Hi Jimmy,

Thanks for your answer.
As I said before - there are no startable videos on my disk or i don't know
how to start them (what i have done is in my prevoius posts).
And if i use the Safe Mode - i can't start the game. I tried all the
Sound-related-tipps on the microsoft support page for Dungeon Siege 2 -
doesn't solve the problem.
Did You have other ideas, how i can enjoy my game without this sound
problems in movies?

Mirko

Hi Mirko,

You might try lowering the hardware acceleration of your sound card.

Hi Mirko,

Which sound card do you have? Is it compatible to the game?
Are there any references to the card in the readme.rtf file?
Have you updated it's driver to the latest version?

| Any other ideas?

Have you tried reinstalling the game itself?

Hi Jimmy,

as i said before my soundcard is soundblaster live! 5.1.
The card is not mentioned in the readme-file.
And as i said before - in the game and in INGame-Videos the sound is ok,
only in game
videos (like the intro) there are sound problems.
I have the latest sound-drivers - i even checked and reinstalled them.
And i have reinstalled the game itself.
Doesn't solve the problem.
Any other suggestions?

Hi Mirko,

I'm going to step aside so others can participate since we
don't seem to be making progress despite our best efforts.

If nobody comes forward with ideas that haven't been tried,
you might want to contact (PSS) Microsoft Support directly. :)

If the in-game videos are ok (and I assume they have the same format as
the intro one) then I think you can safely assume that the file(s) are
corrupt. Have you got a friend nearby with a working game? If so, try to
copy the movie files from him.
Hi Mirko,

I'm going to step aside so others can participate since we
don't seem to be making progress despite our best efforts.

If nobody comes forward with ideas that haven't been tried,
you might want to contact (PSS) Microsoft Support directly. :)

Just checked the directory list that you sent in an earlier posting. It
seems the Miles Sound System (MSS) is part of it. Have a look in options
when you start the game for sound options and see if you can choose a
different sound provider.

Hi Thomas,

thanks for your reply. But the INGame-Videos are different from the other
"real"
videos, because the ingame-videos ar made with the 3d-game-engine - the
other videos (like the intro) are made with real-video-tools (i think bink
video).
So the files are not corrupt. Have you other ideas whats wrong?

Did you check my later post regarding the sound provider? Please come
back with info what happened.
