DUN won't autodial?

Hi all

I've just completed my frist installetion of XP.

I seem to have a problem with DUN and auto dialling. At present I have two
DUN connectoids with one set as default. Some programs such as Dialog for
instance (my Newsreader) will not initiate a dial up connection and instead
complain of a socket error. If I connect manually beforehand though they
happily connect to the outside world.

Internet Explorer and OE seem to work as expected.

I have noticed that if I run the system information program and check the
connectivity tab under the Internet tree that the top entry for DUN
connections says 'Never', but in IE options for connections I have 'Always
dial my default connection' selected.

I'm confused. Can anyone help?

I have run sfc /scannow just to check that Windows files are correct.

Great site, full of really useful information. Unfortunately I haven't
found the answer to my problem. :-((

For the moment don't know what else to try. Beginning to suspect that a
repair of the XP installation may have to be the next move...
