Dual directories, cannot delete

I have two directories, each has a different name but each has
My Music and My Pictures in it, plus other files. When I write to one
directory file it also writes to the other directory file. I tried to
delete one directory and files, the files will delete but re-appear
when I re-boot. The directories have different names but when I try to
delete or change the name of one directory it will not change or
delete. How can I safely delte one complete directory without
affecting the other? This causes duplicate files which fills the HD up
fast.
Thanks.

Right click on one or more of those folders and select properties, I think
you will find that they are one in the same. In other words, you don't have
2 copies of the same files but just a folder with the actual files and a
shortcut pointing to the same place. The My Documents folder points to
C:\Documents and Settings\Users login\My Documents.

I doubt that there is any duplication. It's merely two ways to get to the
same files.

Yes They both have the same folder name. Not a shortcut that I can see.
I can delete files from one directory. A check on properties of the
C:/ disk shows the total bytes count of that directory goes down by
that amount. However, on re-boot the directory files come back and the
count goes up again. The directory folder itself cannot be eliminated.
I think what happened is; I dl'd some files from a backup DVD to the
computer. I think I accidently dl'd the directory folder and all the
files. What I find confusing is that the directory folders have
different names altho they do have common files. I cannot delete
either directory folder.

If they are the same files then why does the byte count go up by 100kb
if you add a 50kb file. The two directories are not exactly the same,
one has more files than the other with one directory having a
subdirectory that includes "Windows".?
The directory is C:\Documents and Settings\L\My documents. Why is
Windows under this directory?
