Dual Boot Windows 2000 and Windows XP

Hi,

Is it possible to create a dual boot Windows XP Home and
Windows 2000 machine when Windows XP is installed first.

When attempting to install Win 2000, I keep getting a
message along the lines of:

"This CD-ROM is from an older version of Windows than the
one you are presently using.

Setup functionality from this disk will be disabled".

If anyone could help with this I would be most grateful.

Thanks.

Hi DRTP,

Yes, it's possible, but you can't do the install of 2K by running Setup from
within XP (as you have noticed). You'll need to boot from the 2K install CD
or create the set of 4 setup floppy disks and boot from the first floppy in
the set (will ask for each successive disk thereafter). Instructions for
creating the setup disks are here:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=197063

You'll also have to repair the XP Bootloader, since 2K's bootloader doesn't
recognize XP.......follow the instructions here:

Hi Patti,

Thanks very much for your help. Its very much
appreciated. I managed to make progress using this
method but I am have got stuck at one point and would
appreciate your help once again.

1. I created the four floppy disks boot disks by
executing MAKEBT32 file in the folder SERVER\BOOTDISK\

2. The computer was booted from the four floppy disks
created in no. 1 above. This worked properly.

3. At the end of the 4th floppy disk from no. 2 above it
asks for the Windows 2000 CD to be put into the CD
drive.

Error: when I do no. 3 above it tried to read the CD but
nothing then happens to install Windows 2000 and there is
no error message.

If you could assist with this I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

DRTP
