dual boot win XP/ Linux!

Fabrizio

Hello everybody!

I have a 160 GB HD in my machine running Win XP. Now, I would like to try
out Linux and was wondering if I could add a second HD (I have a 20 GB one)
to my computer and install Linux in there. Is it feasible? I mean can I have
a dual boot system Win XP/Linux with the two operative systems installed in
two different HDs?

Help is really appreciate!

Thanks

yes you can install linux on the second drive or even on the first drive if
you have a second partition.
My computer has XP on one parition and Mandrake 10 Linux on the other....
when I boot the computer Lilo (linux's bootloader) asks me what OS I want to
work on.

Hope this helps. Let us know.

Thanks Carey for the link! However, these instructions for a dual boot
system with windows and linux in the same HD! I want to have them in two
separate HDs!
Do you have any article about it?

Thanks

Hi,

It's pretty much the same, to dual boot you will need to use GRUB or LILO
from Linux, and it will be installed to the root of the boot volume. The
system files themselves can be installed to either drive.

Yes certainly. Setting up a dual boot with Linux is possible if you
install the Linux second and set its boot loader (lilo or grub) up in
the root of the boot drive, with references to the XP partition and to
the new Linux one. But it is not altogether easy, and I suggest
checking the matter out in one of the Linux groups as well as in the
instructions for the particular distribution you get. I would prefer to
use an independent Boot Manager program myself, with the lilo installed
*in* the Linux partition as the next stage

Read carefully the doc's with the Linux distribution. They normally
have a doc there which explains it.

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.
