dual boot two partitions

motor man

I have a two partitions called "C" and "D" on a160 GB drive. The C
drive has WinXP home sp2 installed and it is giving problems.
( Microsoft help has been unable to help me solve the problem. ) Can I
install the same Winxp on D and try if that works OK? If it does then
I will just format "C" and reinstall other prgms on it.
Thanks

Yes i'm almost certain you can install on the D drive, but, what about
anything already on the drive. You will have to back it up somewhere?. Can
you boot onto the C drive, if so, back everything on it to the D drive and
then you can format the C drive and reinstall that way. Some programs will
only want to install on the C drive. Have you tried repairing the windows
installation on the C drive. What about system restore? Have you checked to
make sure the drive is'nt failing? Jim.

Before you do anything back up your important data to some external media
(CD, DVD, external HDD, USB memory stick etc.) and make sure that it is
readable.

Next try a repair install :-

If that doesn't work then just reformat your c: drive and reinstall XP and
your software to C:
