Dual Boot problem

S

Suresh Lohar

Hi,

I have p4 with 80gb HD having three partitions. C D E

On C I installed XP and on D win-98

system has dual boot option at starting, either go choose XP or win98

by mistake I totally deleted win98 folder from D.

I stopped there, and when restart XP was running nicely but I lost 98,
though system still shows

both the option to choose.

What should I do now.. as 98 is too old so how I compeletely remove this
from system and

also this option that asked to choose to boot which OS, 98 or XP

Please advise me.. thanx

I am new to configuration, please write me in little detail.

You only have to update the boot.ini file, located at
C:\boot.ini . It's a hidden file by default, so you may have
to "unhide" it at Settings/Control Panel/Folder Options/
View tab/select "Show hidden files and folders". Then,
in Notepad, edit the boot.ini file by removing the entry
under the "[operating systems]" line that refers to the
Win98 location. Make sure that the default OS location
matches the one remaining "[operating systems]" entry.
You can also set the timeout value to 0, but it's not
necessary if you have only one entry under
"[operating systems]".

Or, you can do the same thing by going to Start/Run
and entering "msconfig" in the window, and then hitting
Enter or the OK button. From the dialog box that pops
up, select the "boot.ini" tab, and then click the button
"Check all boot paths". That will find that there is only
the WinXP still in the system, and it will edit the boot.ini
file for you.
