Dual Boot errors "..following file is missing or corrupt.."

I installed win2k onto my "E" drive on my XP machine. It all seemed fine and
win2k boots fine but now when I try to boot back into XP I get the error:
Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or
corrupt:
\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEMd
You can attempt to repair this file by starting Wondows 2000 Setup using the
original Setup floopy disk or CD-ROM...

I notice that the drive XP originally booted from (C) is now designated
(D)...!

How can I recover my XP OS?? I'm trying to stay calm...

Thanks Will,
I'm working on this now! It's complicated but I'm confident. Two questions:
1. is there any chance that the fix could be as simple as re-designating the
drive? Recall that XP was installed on C but C got re-designated as D during
the install of win2k..
2. How do I boot the the Recovery Console?

I really appeciate this!
