Dropped text after pasting

After pasting in sections of text, my long document has dropped lines from
the bottom of pages. When I hit the space bar, the missing text will
re-appear, but may disappear again when I do this to the next page's missing
text. What have I done to cause this, and how can I correct it?

Does it help if you copy the entire document contents, minus the final
paragraph mark (Ctrl+A, Shift+Left arrow), and paste (Ctrl+V) into another
file?

Yes, that worked - thank you! In future, is there a better way to copy text
than simply highlighting a section, then copying and pasting? Should I avoid
the final paragraph mark of all sections of text before copying?

I'm glad I could help.

The fact that the suggested procedure worked indicates that the document
might have been (partially) corrupt. In such documents, it is best to delete
all section breaks before recreating the document (the final paragraph mark
contains a hidden section break, which is why it shouldn't be included when
copying; see also
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/formatting/WorkWithSections.htm).

In a document that is not corrupt you don't have to take any specific
actions when pasting; however, if you are pasting text, especially from a
web page, you may want to paste as "Unformatted Text" to get more control
over the formatting and avoid bringing in any un-necessary formatting.
