I just finished working on an HP Presario 5310C computer. It came without
any recovery disks, so I had to do a clean install of Windows XP Pro. I was
surprised to find that all devices were up and running right after the last
reboot. Apparently all the drivers for these devices came with Windows XP.
I was surprised because when I do a clean install on my IBM Netvista S42, I
need to install drivers for the chipset, the video, the network, the audio
and the modem.
Does this happen because HP has some kind of agreement with MS to include
its device drivers, or is it just luck? I don't think this happens with Dell
computers.
