drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28)???

I have tried using a USB flash drive and a IDE HD (80G Western Digital) in a
USB 2.0 enclosure with my PC and I get the following errors each time:

There was a problem installing this hardware:
USB Mass Storage Device USB Device (this is the flash drive)
WDCWD80 00JJA0 USB Device (IDE HD in enclosure)

When I go to Device Manager-Properties for each device the following error
message is listed:
The drivers for this device are not installed (Code 28).

I then clicked Reinstall Driver (allowing to XP update automatically) and it
starts the whole error process over
again:
There was a problem installing this hardware:
USB Mass Storage Device USB Device (this is the flash drive)
WDCWD80 00JJA0 USB Device (IDE HD in enlcosure)

I do not experience these errors when either the USB flash drive or the IDE
HD (80G Western Digital) in a USB 2.0 enclosure are used with other PCs that
I have.

How can I fix this issue? Is there a way to update the USB Mass Storage
driver for XP?
