Driver updates.

I have 2 driver updates to install, but I'm afraid to
install because I read in these newsgroups that you should
not install new driver updates. They are:
SiS display software (video ).
C- Media Multimedia Software update ( sound ).
My system is all running fine but don't know whether to
install these. Thank you.

Hi

Have you checked with the manufacturer's web site? Try using the latest
drivers from there.

My car runs perfectly, burns no oil, gets excellent gas mileage, is
tight as a drum and all the front end parts have already been replaced,
but the mechanic at the Chevy Dealer found $1,200 worth of parts he said
needed replacing. What should I do?

I would say, if it's not broken, don't fix it.
If you don't want to see them there, choose 'personalize windows
updates', and remove them from the list by unchecking their boxes.

I aggreee with netnut, i pressume your using the microsoft windows update
website, sometimes they have a nastey habbit of getting the drivers wrong,
that are needed for my computer, so my sound ends up not working etc. Very
annoying. If it aint broken, dont fix it.

First, if you are not having any issues, you usually don't need to update
your drivers. That's probably what you saw on this board or, if you mean
you saw that you shouldn't install the driver updates from Windows update,
see below:

If the updates you have are from Windows Update, it's better to get hardware
driver updates directly from the manufacturer's website as they usually have
the latest versions and they usually support all or most of the features of
the hardware as opposed to the drivers they supply for Windows Update which
generally support only the most basic functions.

Thank you all for the advice.
