Driver cleaner ruined my harddrive?

Hello all.
I recently had gotten myself a driver cleaner for my Windows XP Media Center
Edition 2005.
After running it and ridding my pc of empty folders and uneeded drivers and
such, "Prepareing to install" things started popping up for programs that
worked perectly fine, such as MyDVD Pro.
I decided to try and restart my computer, but upon restart... I couldn't get
to my desktop! I'm figureing that the driver sweeper wiped out somthing
valuable in my pc's booting system and harddrive or whatever.

I can get to that "Windows didn't shut down normally..." screen but I can't
even get into safe mode, it just locks up.

The only option I see now is that I have to restore my 'entire' 200 gb
harddrive and rid it of all my data, which consists of many important files I
would like to keep.

Any advice?

Boot from your WINXP CD and proceed as if you will install WINXP but at the
appropriate screen select Repair.
Go to www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm for step by step
instructions

So much for 3rd party free-bees.....If you boot to xp cd,select "install
xp" then
select "repair this copy" is 1 option, recovery is the other,1st simply type:
CHKDSK C: /R Type:EXIT When thru,see if xp starts.Otherwise,read kb307654
For all recovery options.

Ditto the previous posts, but if the data is important I'd get hold of a new
HD and a copy of BartPE or Knoppix, and make a copy of the data first before
attempting repairs.

Yes...

1. Throw Driver Cleaner in the trash. Remember to smash the disc so no one
else puts that piece of sh*t on their computer.

2. Do a repair install of Windows.

3. In the future, do not fall prey to the lies that manufacturers of
crapware like "driver Cleaner" would have you believe.

Before you wipe Hard drive get hold os an IDE to USB cable and power pack -
about £6 from e-buyer. If you can get hold of a laptop ar another PC - take
the corrupt drive out of your PC use the cable to connect drive to laptop -
power up drive with power source if laptop has XP then it will read the
drive like a USB pen. Then you can lift all important files to laptop before
reformatting drive and reinstalling windows. I know this works because I have
just done it with my PC
