Drive Space Disappearing

XP; 10MB hard drive for winxp; another hard drive for
swap file.

??total file sizes for winxp dir; program files is 4GB --
disk space in My Computer for drive reports 2GB, and over
time keeps dwindling down, now 600MB. Swap file on
different drive, nothing new installed, keep outlook pst
folders small, what gives?? Thanks

What about "system restore" - is it turned on - if so, here's where
your space is going.

Try turning off Hibernation if you dont use it, access is
through power in the screen saver page in right click
desktop >properties. the other space could be system
restore which adds a restore point every 24 hours and
they can use up a lot of space, in the second tab in the
Disc clean dialog box you can delete all but the last
restore point, this should free up some space.

no hibernation mode used. i didn't know about cleaning up
system restore, did that, but not much space regained.

Before assessing the space, you need to have Folder Options - View set
to show Hidden files, and *not* Hide Protected mode ones

You will have free space go down as the system makes daily restore
points. By default these are allowed up to 12% of the drive - so 1.2 GB
for you. There is also a hiberfil.sys, the size of RAM. And if in
making your page file settings you did not leave a notional amount on C:
(I suggest initial 2 max 50) you may find that the system has taken it
into its head to make a very big one there
